Important usage details
Key facts and things to know before using the comparison feature:
- The indigenous DNA database allows anyone who has tested their DNA markers to compare them against the data from indigenous studies from published peer reviewed scientific journals to see which peoples and places are most similar to their genetic type.
- How accurate is the comparison? The comparisons are only as accurate as the research data published in the article, the populations available and the population size sampled. Indigenous DNA is simply a tool which facilitates the comparison of your DNA markers with genetic markers from indigenous populations from published research journals. We have no control over the search results. Please note that the reliability of the search results is highly dependent upon the population size. The more populations added and the larger the population size, the more reliable the search results. Thus, the database will become stronger as more journals are added.
- If you do not see your region in the search list, you will not see it in the search results as it is not in the comparison.
- If your region is not in the database, it means that your region likely has not yet been studied and there is no published data for that region. We cannot add regions that have not yet been published in scientific journals.
- We do not take amateur data. All data in the indigenous DNA database are from recognized peer reviewed scientific journals.
- Many factors affect which populations show up in the search. Population size is a major determining factor.
- Should I rely on the results? The search results are meant to be used as supporting evidence and not meant to be used stand alone. Please use these search results in conjunction with or to supplement your DNA haplogroup studies.
- Can you add more populations or add my region? Only if it is published. If it is not published yet, we will need to wait until population studies are available.
Indigenous DNA is a free search engine which allows you to find DNA data from published research articles that are most relevant to your own DNA profile.
